Location: Department of State Posts - Overseas and Domestic, with many vacancies
Telework: Not eligible
Travel Required: 50% or less; overseas assignments for two years, followed by one to three years in the U.S. or overseas
Appointment Type: Permanent after tenure granted by a Foreign Service Specialist Tenure Board

Duties:
- Provide support for and assist in worldwide technical security programs.
- Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot various technical security systems.
- Conduct technical surveys, system specifications, and equipment installations.
- Manage equipment supply chain logistics.
- Oversee and supervise X-ray and explosive detection programs.
- Train security personnel and manage training programs.
- Write technical reports and assist in project management of security contracts.
- Mentor and supervise junior STS personnel.
Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must be at least 20 years old and appointed prior to age 60.
- Top Secret security clearance is required.
- Must be able to obtain Foreign Service Medical Clearance.
- Physical and medical requirements must be met.
- A valid U.S. driver's license is required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional educational achievements can substitute for specialized experience.
Qualifications:
- Two years of specialized experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic, electrical, and/or electro-mechanical systems and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of technology, security systems, logistics processes, and practices.
- Technical skills in reading and interpreting building plans, conducting technical surveys, using tools, etc.
- General skills in project management, team leading, reporting, and customer service.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Essential physical requirements include vision, hearing, speaking, lifting, manipulating small objects, and endurance for prolonged periods.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional educational achievements can substitute for specialized experience.
