About the Position:
The U.S. Department of State is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Foreign Service Medical Provider (Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant). This position plays a crucial role in maintaining and promoting the health of employees and their eligible family members who represent U.S. government agencies abroad.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide primary health care services to employees and their families, including but not limited to medical examinations, prenatal care, therapeutic procedures, and vaccinations.
- Manage occupational health and preventive medicine programs, including disease prevention programming, health maintenance, and wellness programs.
- Administer health unit functions, including managing resources, hiring and supervising staff, and maintaining communication with the embassy/consulate community.
- Coordinate emergency medical response, including providing emergency medical care, initiating medical evacuations, and managing the medical unit's emergency response programs.
- Fulfill embassy or State Department specific responsibilities, such as arranging medical evacuations, liaising with regional medical officers, and advising ambassadors on medical matters.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and accept assignments based on the needs of the Foreign Service.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Must meet the minimum medical qualification standard.
- Must be at least 20 years old at the time of application.
- Must possess a current license as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in a state or territory of the U.S., Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia, along with current national certification.
- Must have a minimum of five years of full-time clinical experience within the past seven years, post-NP or PA family practice certification.
- Must possess a diploma from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a health-related field.
